It’s time for another Featured Artist! At SongCast, we’re always looking for new ways to help promote YOUR music. Check out this week’s Featured Artist interview with Brandon Trevon:

What’s your first musical memory?
My 1st memory of music would have to be when I was a kid and my mother asked me to clean up while she was gone. I waited until I heard the front door slam and started belting out singing, she walked in and cursed me out for not cleaning telling me to turn off the radio. I laughed at her and told her it was me and she said for me to do it again. I would also build stages from my legos and pretend with the lego people that they would be on tour performing.

What artist inspires you?
I am inspired by so many different artist that it would take nearly 3 days just to get through all of them. The genres of music ranging from Pop, R&B, Rock, Alternative, Gospel, Soul, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Neo-Soul, etc. has definitely been a trailblazer in my life. I always give this analogy describing me as an artist, if Mary J. Blige & R. Kelly procreated and had a baby yet she cheated on him with Dave Hollister I would be the love child in that triangle with Whitney Houston and Gerald Levert serving as my God-parents.

What’s your latest track or album?
My latest single is entitled “Swerve” off my upcoming EP project “Inside Out” which is an upbeat song that’s great for clubs and parties. If you like to have a great time then “Swerve” is the song for you.

What song or album do you HATE?
I wouldn’t necessarily say I hate something, but I am not a big fan of majority of the music that’s on radio. There are some gems but nothing that really makes me want to go wild over. However, I do respect the grind and hustle of the many artist that are out today.

What’s a song or album everyone should be listening to right now?
I would have to say that new Kendrick Lamar album is bananas as well as that new Brandy joint which might be her BEST yet to date. I am really loving Nas’ latest album especially the song with him and Amy Winehouse. I think those albums are AMAZING.

What profession would you choose if you couldn’t choose music?
I would have to go with psychologist and graphic design artist.

Tell us more about your local scene.
I am located in Minneapolis, MN the home of Prince, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Next, Morris Day & The Time and Alexander O’neil. This list goes on & on, but to be honest I am surrounded by a lot of newcomers that are trying so hard to put Minnesota on the map where they forget about the presentation or the business aspect of how the INDUSTRY really work. I believe that there are many talented people in Minnesota, but a lot of them will not go to that next step with a one track mind which is “GETTING PUT ON”. I am willing to learn, grow and focus on turning myself into a brand/business which will help my marketing strategies.

As a performer, what would be your ‘perfect’ live experience?
I have performed so many places to date but I would have to say that I give the best that I can every time I perform. If I am going through something or something is on my mind I am at my best because I channel that energy and absorb into the moment.

What aspect drew you to the particular genre of music that you now perform/write?
I love the aspect of being able to touch & inspire others. I love the affect that music has on people. I love that music can change lives and it speaks volumes to the soul whether it’s good or bad. A lot of people go through a lot in life and I feel as a performer we should be able to tell those stories for them. I look at myself as the voice of the unheard.

Share one personal event in your life that greatly influenced a song/album that you have created during your musical career.
Oh wow! This is a great question because I have come up with songs based off of my own experiences as well as a lot of people. I have heard stories and pulled from that. A few times I have eased dropped on conversations that were near and wrote based off of that. I can literally hear something and write down something. I have seen things on television and turned that into a song. A lot of times things are random and I begin to get inspired from that, so it’s a lot of things that really make me want to write a song.
