We’re always looking for new ways to help promote YOUR music. Every Thursday we’ll highlight the career and the music of a SongCast artist. Check out this week’s Spotlight interview with Christian/Gospel artist, Donna T. Hatcher! Click here to listen to Donna’s latest album, Songs of Donna.
What’s your first musical memory?
My first musical experience happened when I was a little girl, learning from my mom, who sang in a church choir. I would sit in the audience, watching her and the choir sing from the depth of their hearts, songs of praise. In my adult years, I joined several choruses. I’ve always enjoyed singing, but didn’t know that I was also a songwriter.
What artist inspires you?
Many artists inspire me. Two in particular are BeBe and CeCe Winnas. They are so authentic.
What’s your latest track or album?
My last track Album is “Songs of Donna.” My last track is “Walking in the blessings of the Lord.”
What song or album do you HATE?
I really don’t have a listening ear for explicit songs. Our young ears don’t need to hear anymore violence or foul language. Artists must remember that we are seed planters. Our words must always be edifying and repeatable.
What’s a song or album everyone should be listening to right now?
Songs that change a heart, like “The Master’s Plan” or “Walking in the Blessings of the Lord.”
What profession would you choose if you couldn’t choose music?
I am a Certified Dental Assistant, Oral Surgery.
Where is your current local scene?
Chicago, Illinois.
As a performer, what would be your ‘perfect’ live experience?
My perfect live experience is to one day, travel the country in my Winnebago and record a song with Cece Winnas.
What aspect drew you to the particular genre of music that you now perform/write?
“I’m Going to Proclaim his Name.” I wrote that song going through some serious spiritual attacks, but nevertheless I am still able to say the name of Jesus, proclaiming his name all over the world. Being a true believer of Jesus Christ. Authentic.
A big thanks to Donna for speaking with us this week!

BeBe and CeCe Winnas are also personal favorites of mine. Donna herself is an inspiration to other songwriters. I was particularly impressed with her statement that artists are seed planters. I wholeheartedly agree and believe the seeds we plant matter. Donna is planting some very beautiful seeds, instead of more awful explicit songs. There are too many of them out there already.
