You create. Your job is to make something from nothing. That’s not an easy task. Even if you have a ton of creative energy, sometimes you might need a little inspiration and motivation to help get the job done.
If you feel stalled, a little in kick in the pants to jumpstart the process always helps. After all, the key to success is often persistence and perseverance. Here are some good resources for inspiration when you need it most:
Nature: Many writers have turned to a retreat in the great outdoors to help clear their mind and make a new start. Take in the smells, the sounds and the calm.
Planes, Trains and more: Perhaps the roar of a jet engine and the long narrow runway helps to turn your gears. The hustle and bustle of the airport, train stations or even subway cars might help you come up with new topics and characters for songs.
Music and Books: Writers often find that listening to music helps inspire them. Reading books, newspapers and magazines may also help you develop new topics, or spot phrases that you like and may help spawn other ideas.
Performance: Head to the theater or ballet. Think about how the work is structured; think about the colors, and the ambiance. Perhaps you can take something from a live performance that will help motivate you to finish your own work.
Family: Maybe you need some quality time with to remind you that you are good enough, smart enough and gosh darn it people like you! Sometimes a little conversation with the people we love helps us see a more clearly, and helps us move toward our goals.
Health: Surely a good workout, a nice hike in the woods or a long bike ride will help get the creative juices flowing again.
