5 Tips for Creating Killer Video Content

music_video_contentIt’s easy to get caught in a cycle of simply posting text on your social media and blog pages. But remember, you’re an entertainer. People want to hear and see you. So, use this to your advantage by creating and sharing video content and using your social media pages as a way to share your videos.

Here are five tips to help you create killer video content:

1. Know your audience: When creating a video (whether it’s a music video, interview, documentary or otherwise), you should know who your audience is and speak to them. This will help draw them in and keep them interested.

2. Find your voice: Have you ever watched a video where the person speaking seemed totally fake? You want to avoid that by finding your authentic voice – and using it. Don’t force yourself; be natural and your on-camera self will be natural, too.

3. Practice: The old adage stays true: practice makes perfect. You’ll be able to find what feels right on camera by practicing. And you’ll also learn how to…

4. Get to the point: Online videos are meant to be short and concise. Start your video with the most interesting point or idea and work from there. Get to the point right away or else you run the risk of loosing your audience.

5. Encourage sharing: Don’t simply put the video online and hope someone finds it. Share it with your friends, your family and your fans, and ask them to share it too. Make your video engaging and interesting enough that people will want to share it.

Remember: audio and visual quality is a reflection of your level as an artist. Don’t release anything that you feel is sub-par – especially poor audio quality. Your videos speak volumes about your work.

As an indie artist, blogs, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter give you a voice and a way to share your work. Make sure your videos are interesting enough to help you cultivate fans, keep the old fans, and get them excited about your music.

Tell us what you think! Have you created video content recently? What was the most challenging aspect of creating videos? Did your fans share them?
