What’s your first musical memory?

Singing and Music are some of the first things I can remember. It’s in my genes.

What artist inspires you?

The first artist that inspired me was Gospel Singer, Mahalia Jackson; her music still does.

What’s your latest track or album?

My latest album is “Have Mercy on the Children.”

What song or album do you HATE?

I don’t like Rap Music.

What’s a song or album everyone should be listening to right now?

A song everyone should be listening to is “The Signs of the Time” from my album, “Thanks for the Loan.”

What profession would you choose if you couldn’t choose music?

I didn’t choose music, it choose me. I would have chosen nursing.

Tell us more about your local scene.

I live in a small desert town. I have done and still do Gospel singing at churches and other places.

As a performer, what would be your ‘perfect’ live experience?

My perfect live experience would be ministering through songs to a very large audience anywhere.

What aspect drew you to the particular genre of music that you now perform/write?

I’ve always liked Gospel/Christian music. After an injury in 1986, I began to receive songs with the melodies. I knew nothing about songwriting before the accident. The songs had such encouraging messages I was inspired to share them with everyone.

Share one personal event in your life that greatly influenced a song/album that you have created during your musical career.

If not for the injury which included a concussion, I don’t believe I would have started writing the songs. I was really too busy trying to help make a living for our four children. I feel the injury allowed me to be still and listen to the Holy Spirit. I also believe the concussion unlocked my gift of writing .

Irene Porter is my Mom and I’m so proud that I was able to witness God working through her even during a very trying time in her life. She never slacked on her duties as a mother even while pursuing her dream! She kept going even when discouraged. She encouraged herself when no one else did because she recognized that her songs were God-inspired! She is truly blessed and continues to bless others through her gift! She is my inspiration…I’d say this even if she wasn’t my Mom! Smell your flowers Mom!

accept the above statement. It makes me feel like I did some things right.
