Dottie’s Tip on iTunes Artwork

Hello SongCasters!  I’m back with a brand new installment of Dottie’s Corner.

I want to address a very common issue that comes into Support that you may not know about: iTunes Artwork!

On August 1st, iTunes changed their artwork specifications, now covers must be 1400×1400 in size. Previously it was 600×600.

We have many artists who have not read the new guidelines on the site or do not understand what they need to do now.   I’m here to help you get up to speed!

The most common issue that artists face is that they submit a small image, the tech rejects it, gives the reason, and then they resize that small image to 1400×1400. Of course this leads to a very blurry and pixilated image. Now, the tech must reject the cover again. I have received many e-mails into Support by frustrated and a bit confused artists. We try to explain that they need a higher resolution image to start with.

I also recommend using one of our free covers. (Yes, free!) They can download an image off our free cover list, add their own text (artist name and album title) and upload back into their album already the perfect size. If they do not want or know how to add text, we will add the text to our free covers at no charge.

The key points are iTunes made this change and we are required to comply. Unfortunately, resizing a small image will not work.

Bottom line: if we send the image as is (small) it will be rejected by iTunes.  However, we offer free covers already sized to specs.

If you have questions about this new iTunes requirement, you can contact me here.  If you have any other questions, be sure to check out our FAQ page!

Until next time!

    Dear Dottie,
I’m a new artist with your Company. You may remember my song “Double Dutch Bus”
Recorded in the early 80’s. I can use all the help to be of use to Children in the world.
Please feel free to advise me in my future with Song Cast. It’s more than just making
money when it comes to the children…that’s why one of my favorite songs I want to
promote is “Aamagine All The Children”.

How can I get all the children t hear what Heaven can really be like?
