Top 5 Music “How To” YouTube Videos

youtube_for_artistsWhile learning from famous artists, local artists, trustworthy blogs, and FAQ’s, another great resource to tap when you’re asking “Just how do you sell songs on iTunes?” is none other YouTube.

While YouTube can certainly be a great place to market your band, promote your music, and watch that latest (amazing) cat video, it’s also a great place to look when you’re trying to improve your sound.

Here is the SongCast list of the top 5 music “how to” YouTube videos:

Make a music video:  Though you’ll find video after video on how to make a music video, one of our favorites is produced by a channel called Film Riot. It’ll teach you how to start with a concept, how to meld a song with a story, and how to break down the basics behind production.

Vocal warm ups: Though every artist does it differently, we’re a big fan of this vocal warm up by the opera singer Danielle de Niese. Work on airflow, sliding scales, and head resonance; while you may not be taking the stage as Cleopatra anytime soon, why not practice like the pros to perform like the pros?

Go outside the beatbox: For something a little more fun and out of the box, why not learn to beatbox? We love this beatboxing “how to” which will teach you the basics, including snare, scratch, bass, and techno. (At the very least, you can fill in for your no-show drummer at your next gig, right?)

Wake up those hands: Nervous before the guitar solo at your next big gig? Why not warm up your hands? Check out these musician hand stretches by Bullet Cable designer, Ted McCann. We’re a fan.

Take a deep breath: Not only will these pre-show breathing tips help you belt out your best, but they’ll also help you calm those pre-show nerves (don’t pretend you don’t know what we’re talking about). Take a moment to focus on your diaphragm with these easy exercises.

So the next time you’re scouring the internet to find the answer to the question “How do you sell music on iTunes?” take a quick YouTube break with one (or all) of our five “how to” favorites!
