As the New Year begins, we’ve compiled a list of artists that have experienced success in popularity, downloads and listens. Expect these names to be ruling the Indie charts in 2015.

  1. Indie_ArtistThe 1975

The 1975 have become a signature part of the Indie scene since their first studio album was released in 2013, which shot to the top of the UK albums charts. This quartet from Manchester has experienced a lot of success in the past year, having already made a number one album, performed at Coachella, and toured internationally. The lead singer was even rumored to be dating pop superstar Taylor Swift. 2015 should be another big year for the band, as they will continue touring and are slated to release another studio album.

  1. CHVRCHES

Chvrches released their debut album, “The Bones of What You Believe,” in 2013, launching them into the spotlight. Hailing from Scotland, the band has become known for their energetic pop-electronic beats. Lead singer Lauren Mayberry, who has a law degree and her MA in journalism, also made headlines when she wrote an article addressing online misogyny.  This Scottish trio is intelligent, conscientious, and very talented – and they promise to continue gaining poplarity in 2015, appearing at Lollapalooza in the summer and touring.

  1. The Districts

This foursome out of Lilitz, Pennsylvania first gained recognition when the music video of their song “Funeral Beds” went viral, and this was made even more impressive by the fact they were still in high school when they recorded the song. Their first EP was released in 2014, and its bluesy, country-tinged rock sound received critical acclaim. In 2015, they are set to release their first full length album.

  1. Wildcat! Wildcat!

This band is a trio from LA who have been friends since middle school, and released their debut album in mid 2014. They performed at Lollapalooza in Chicago this summer, and are continuing to gain popularity on the Indie scene.

  1. Years & Years

This electro-pop trio from London garnered buzz earlier this year when their first ever EP was released to positive reviews and it reached the number one spot on the iTunes UK Singles Chart. The lead singer Olly Alexander is  also an actor, appearing in the acclaimed West End play
“Peter and Alice” alongside Judi Dench, as well as the UK TV Drama “Skins”. The band’s first album is set to be released sometime next year.

  1. Walk the Moon

This band from Cincinnati had a huge hit in 2012 with their single “Anna Sun” from their second album. Their third album was just released in December 2014, and it contains more hits with their signature pop-rock sound. Their infectious single “Shut Up and Dance” is already climbing the charts as well.

  1. Parquet Courts

This rock band from New York City has been making music together since 2010. They have been on the scene for a while now, and just released their third album. It has been their most successful one yet, reaching spot number 55 on the US Billboard Charts. They recently released a single from a fourth album, and promise to continue gaining popularity as they grow as a group.

  1. The Avener

The Avener is a French Deep House producer, who just released his first single “Fade Out Lines” and is due with a new album out sometime in 2015. He has been making music for almost a decade, yet he has never released an album – until now. He is currently touring through clubs in Europe while we await the drop of his record “The Wanderings of the Avener”.

  1. FKA twigs

This young British artist began making music at age 16 and pursued a career as a dancer at 17, appearing in videos with Jessie J. Her first two EPs came out in 2012 and 2013, and her first album was released in 2014. It was nominated for a Mercury award and BBC’s Sound of 2014.
