Sufjan Stevens                        

While Stevens has been making music for a decade and a half, his first album in fifteen years was just released to widespread critical acclaim, many calling it his best. It is one of his more stripped-back and folksy albums; always nostalgic, and sometimes melancholy. Relax and reminisce on old times while listening to Stevens this summer.

Shamir Bailey

Shamir’s debut album will drop in late May, yet he has already gained recognition as one of hip hop’s rising stars. Known for his androgynous style and his intelligent raps, his infectious songs will have you singing along all summer.

Ryn Weaver

Last year, Ryn Weaver’s catchy single “Octahate” became a viral hit, and was backed by stars like Charli XCX, Passion Pit, and Cashmere Cat. Her newest album will drop in June, and she’s touring across the United States. You can see her at some of the most popular summer music festivals, as she’s already performed at South by Southwest and Coachella, and is set to appear at Firefly, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo.

Houndmouth

If you’re looking for an Indie spin on the homegrown, Americana style, Houndmouth should be your artist to watch this summer. The quartet from Indiana has been making music together since 2011, and just recently released their second album, which is full of new hits.

Courtney Barnett

Barnett is a new artist hailing from Melbourne, Australia. She just released her first album in March, and has already received mentions from both Rolling Stone and the New York Times. She’s a singer-songwriter known for her narrative lyrics, and will be touring North America all summer, so you can see her perform live.

Børns

Garrett Borns, who performs as Børns, just released his first single late last year, but has already been identified as one of the rising stars in Indie pop music. His debut EP was full of groovy, catchy songs that highlight his unique voice. You can catch him this summer on tour with Charli XCX, or watch his set at Lollapalooza in late July.

Tove Lo

She has been making music since 2006, but her album “Queen of Clouds” released last year skyrocketed her to fame, despite it having relatively little promotion or investment in music distribution before its release. Her hits “Habits (Stay High)” and “Talking Body” seem to be playing on the radio non-stop, and she seems to be everywhere as well; playing at major music festivals and touring across the US, giving you many chances to see her perform this summer.
